Selin Simsek built the Captions AI app as a Freemium app for iOS. This Service is provided at no cost and is intended for use as is. This page informs you of my policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use the Service.
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. The information I collect is used only for providing and improving the Service. I will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.
Most of what you create in the app — your video files, caption styles, and edit history — is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to my servers.
When you use the AI-powered captioning or audio enhancement features, the audio track extracted from your video is sent to my servers and forwarded to third-party AI services for processing, as described in the "AI-Powered Captioning and Audio Processing" section below. Your original video file and any images are never sent.
To operate the app, I also use a small number of third-party services that may collect limited technical and identifier information, as described in the "Third-Party Services" and "Log Data" sections below. I do not collect, request, or store any other personally identifiable information beyond what is described in this Privacy Policy.
When you use the app to generate captions or enhance audio, I extract the audio track from your video (your video file and any images are not sent) and transmit it to my servers, which forward it to my third-party AI partners:
AssemblyAI and Dolby.io each process this audio solely to perform the function described above, under their own privacy policies and under my data processing agreements with them. They do not retain or reuse the audio for their own purposes.
The app does not collect, analyze, or otherwise process facial or biometric data of any kind, and no video frames or images are ever sent to AssemblyAI, Dolby.io, or any other third party. Only the extracted audio is transmitted.
This processing only happens after you explicitly agree via an in-app consent screen shown before any audio is uploaded. Declining means no audio is sent and the feature will not run. Audio submitted for processing is deleted from my servers shortly after processing completes (typically within 24 hours) and is not retained for any other purpose.
The app uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:

These third parties have access only to the information needed to perform their tasks on my behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
Whenever you use the Service, in the case of an error in the app, I collect data and information (through the third-party services above) called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device's Internet Protocol ("IP") address, device model, operating system version, the configuration of the app when using the Service, the time and date of your use, and other diagnostic statistics. This is used to diagnose crashes and improve app stability.
Audio submitted for captioning or enhancement is deleted from my servers shortly after processing completes (typically within 24 hours). Anonymous identifiers, analytics, diagnostic, and purchase data are retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described above, or as required by the respective third-party services.
I value your trust in providing your information, and I strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. However, remember that no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and I cannot guarantee its absolute security.
This Service may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. These external sites are not operated by me, and I strongly advise you to review their privacy policies. I have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If I discover that a child under 13 has provided me with personal information, I immediately delete it from my servers. If you are a parent or guardian and are aware that your child has provided me with personal information, please contact me so that I can take the necessary action.
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
